Understanding our Origins : Star Formation in H ii Region Environments
Recent analysis of the decay products of short-lived radiounclides (SLRs) in meteorites, in particular the confirmation of the presence of live Fe in the early Solar System, provides unambiguous evidence that the Sun and Solar System formed near a massive star. We consider the question of the formation of low-mass stars in the environments of massive stars, presenting a scenario for the evoluti...
متن کاملThe H Ii Region of the First Star
Simulations predict that the first stars in a ΛCDM universe formed at redshifts z > 20 in minihalos with masses of about 10M⊙. We have studied their radiative feedback by simulating the propagation of ionization fronts (I-fronts) created by these first Population III stars (M∗ = 15 − 500M⊙) at z = 20, within the density field of a cosmological simulation of primordial star formation, outward th...
متن کاملSequential and Spontaneous Star Formation Around the Mid - Infrared Halo H II Region KR 140
We use 2MASS and MSX infrared observations, along with new molecular line (CO) observations, to examine the distribution of young stellar objects (YSOs) in the molecular cloud surrounding the halo H II region KR 140 in order to determine if the ongoing star-formation activity in this region is dominated by sequential star formation within the photodissociation region (PDR) surrounding the H II ...
متن کاملA Submillimeter View of Star Formation near the H Ii Region Kr 140
We present the results of 450 and 850 µm continuum mapping of the H II region KR 140 using the SCUBA instrument on the JCMT. KR 140 is a small (5.7 pc diameter) H II region at a distance of 2.3±0.3 kpc. Five of the six IRAS point sources near KR 140 were mapped in this study. Our analysis shows that two of these IRAS sources are embedded late B type stars lying well outside the H II region, two...
